"Like American nightingales, the young singers from Wisconsin reminded us that music transcends place and language." - Dziennik Polski, Krakow, Poland
"Your CD is outstanding! Such repertoire - such intonation - such blend and tone and such musicality! I believe it is the finest high school CD I have ever heard" - Weston Noble, Luther College
Appleton North High School opened in 1995 as Appleton's third high school. The enrollment of 1,800 students includes grades 9-12. Over 20% of the student body is involved in choral music. The music department includes four bands, two orchestras, and six choirs.
The North Choir is made up of 11-12th grade students who enter the choir by audition. Traveling internationally every other year, they have performed in the Czech Republic, Austria and Italy. The students in this choir are well aware of the power that music plays in their lives, and are committed to the concept of working together for the sake of beautiful music. Their efforts have won the respect of a large audience in the Appleton area.
The Varsity Men's Chorus includes singers in grades 10-12. The Varsity Men have performed at the National Intercollegiate Men's Chorus conference. The Varsity Women's Choir is an auditioned choir of students in grades 10-12. They recently performed at the Annual Martin Luther King Spirituals Concert at The Riverside Church in New York City. Last year they commissioned composer Stephen Hatfield for a new choral work, "Cruel Sister," which is included on this recording. Women's Choral Society includes students in grades 10-12, and although they are a non-auditioned ensemble, they have won top honors in the Heritage Music Festivals and participated in the Heritage Festival of Gold in New York City.
