Artist Home | Blues | Chicago Style | BLUE FULLER: The Meanest Little Girl
As a kid Blue Gil Fuller would hear his father, Mike, sing and play piano. As a teenager Blue came to Chicago in the 1960'S. Many a night he would go to B.L.U.E.S. and many other clubs to hear, and eventually sing with the greatest of the old time bluesmen. It wasn't long before he put together his own band "The Blue Fuller Band" booking various Chicago musicians to come to Ind to play with him in the 1980's.
Musician's like S.P. Leary, Hip Linchain, Jimmy Dawkins, Little Joe Berson, Barrelhouse Chuck, Jimmy Rogers, Guitar Junior, Rich Kirch, Right Handed Frank and Sam Lay came to play. Blue fronted the band with these great players. Then Blue got to play Chicago Fest with Jimmy Dawkins in front of 20,000 people. Blue also toured the east coast with The Jimmy Rogers Blues Band.
In 1979 while staying at the Tokyo Hotel in downtown Chicago Blue met the great harmonica player's Little Joe Berson & Danny Russo. Joe's young piano player Barrelhouse Chuck had just come to Chicago from Florida to meet Sunnyland Slim. Chuck and Blue became great friends and would go all over the city and sit in and play gigs. Chuck was playing at the Cornell Lounge in Hyde Park with Sunnyland Slim. Also at the Croyton Hotel.
From 1979 to today Blue and Barrelhouse have played together from Florida to Seattle to Canada always having a great time. So after 20 years of playing 100's of gigs together Chuck put together this session for his friend. Featuring Blue on Vocals, Barrelhouse on piano and Vox Jaguar and Farfisa organ, Billy Flynn, Willie " Big Eyes" Smith, Kenny Smith, Sam Burkhardt Joe Campagna, Michael Peters and many other great players all LIVE in the studio.
This session sounds so great with this band. It was so much fun recording. Blue is a great guy who is alway the same, just happy to be on the bandstand with his friends. He has a deep passion for the blues and has played with Chicago's best for over 25 years.
S.P. Leary and Erwin Helfer and Little Brother Montgomery really got a kick out of playing with Blue Fuller when I took him to their homes to play.
Enjoy this great CD as we played the songs like we did on the band stand for 20 years! This guy has been knocking them dead in the clubs for years. We captured it here on these recordings.
